Why do Indian females wear traditional clothing more often that other family members

Recommended Posts

Its not uncommon to see a whole Indian family with only the Mother (I presume) to be the only one wearing the traditional sari and all that jazz. If there's an older female (like the grandmother) she would likely be wearing it, too. But I have almost never seen the males or younger Indians wearing the traditional clothing when they are with their family. Is Does anyone know the reason why? Is this a phenomenon unique to Singapore?

I realised this awhile ago but I didn't have the opportunity to ask anyone that could give a satisfying answer so thought maybe some of you would know!
